Which years were BMW M20 engines made?

BMW built the M20 engines we list from about 1977 to 1993. The M20B25 ran from 1985 to 1993. The M20B20 ran from 1977 to 1992.

They went into chassis E30, E28, E34, Z1 and E21. The exact year of a car matters, because BMW sometimes changed the engine version or its parts in the middle of a model's life.
