What is the difference between the Volkswagen EA888 engines?
EA888 2.0 TSI engines for Golf GTI and R, A4, A3, S3 and Tiguan. We list: EA888 Gen3 (2.0 liter (1,984 cc), 228 kW (310 HP), 2013 to 2020); EA888 Gen4 (2.0 liter (1,984 cc), 245 kW (333 HP), 2019 to 2026); EA888 Gen3 (2.0 liter (1,984 cc), 169 kW (230 HP), 2015 to 2020).
The versions share a basic design but differ in power, induction, electronics and emission rules. The right one is the one your car was built with, or the one your swap kit is made for.
The photos on each listing show the actual engine, not a stock picture. The yard checks the code, records what is bolted on, and seals the openings before the engine is offered. Ask the desk for more pictures of any listing. We are happy to show the stamp, the ports and the ancillaries before you decide.
Not sure? Send us your VIN and your gearbox code. We match the engine family, the year window and the parts on the engine before anything is reserved, and the check is free.
