What is the difference between the Toyota 1JZ engines?

Toyota 1JZ-GTE turbo engines for Chaser, Soarer, Cresta and Mark II. We list: 1JZ-GTE (2.5 liter (2,492 cc), 206 kW (280 HP), 1991 to 1996); 1JZ-GTE VVTi (2.5 liter (2,492 cc), 206 kW (280 HP), 1996 to 2005).

The versions share a basic design but differ in power, induction, electronics and emission rules. The right one is the one your car was built with, or the one your swap kit is made for.
